Meaning “Where the Healers are”, Natawiwewak was formed via First Nations partnership with Quest Health to find creative solutions to the many challenges in providing adequate health care in the remote communities of Northern Manitoba. Critically underserviced, Indigenous Northern Manitoba communities are facing epidemic physical and mental health crises. Our team of Physicians and Mental Wellness Clinicians provide essential health care, both in the community and in Winnipeg through our clinic and Health Centre, making a positive impact on the overall quality of life of those we serve.
Due to the Covid-19 Pandemic we will be suspending all of our Natawiwewak Mindfulness Psychoeducational Programs until May 11th, 2020 pending further notice. However, we will still be accepting referrals for this one-week program. Mental Wellness Clinicians will no longer be travelling to the partnering communities of Chemawawin, God’s Lake Narrows, Oxford House and God’s River, these communities are restricting entry to only essential workers at this time. Clinicians can be contracted through our office at 204-417-8877
Natawiwewak Medical Clinic was formed with the goal to enhance physical and mental health recovery and to strengthen service capacity within each community. With a focus on continuance of care, we provide overall health services both in our clinic located in Winnipeg, as well as in community by our visiting health teams, with outcomes that lead to healing and self-determination for the communities, families and individuals. Access to full laboratory services and pharmacy are available, located within the same medical centre.
The Wellness Team works through the Natawiwewak Clinic in Winnipeg, and through Nata Wellness offices in each of our partnering communities. Comprised of Wellness Clinicians, the team provides crisis and ongoing mental wellness services for Indigenous community members. A collaborative approach builds and strengthens mental health structures and practices in the community. The wellness team also hosts a 5 day mindfulness psychoeducational skills building program for Indigenous adults and youth who are struggling with anxiety, depression, suicidal behavior, eating disorders, and other self-harming behaviors, composed of modern and traditional approaches.
Since 2002, the Quest Health Centre has been providing exceptional medical access accommodations to many Northern Manitoba Communities, for both long term and short term stays. Our room and meal packages help alleviate some of the stresses our clients and their escorts face while traveling and staying in Winnipeg so they can focus on their diagnostic and/or treatment programs by providing a home away from home. Centrally located, we are a short distance from most major medical facilities around Winnipeg.
Quest Health and Natawiwewak are dedicated to improving health and wellness in our partnering communities. As we continue to develop new solutions to many of the obstacles faced regularly by our community members, we recognize the need for further access to many other essential services unfortunately lacking in the communities we serve. Quest Health and Natawiwewak are continually working to bring these services to the community members, and provide easy access when needed.
